Comic Con 1980

Though I used to go to comic conventions in the early 80's I didnt start going to SDCC until the late 90's and have not been back in a few years. Would love to go to see some of my fave artists and purchase art and sketches but the movie gawkers and gigantic crowds just turns me off. Why do they go see trailers? I guess to see the actors and directors.
Yeah, I saw the same sneak previews as they all did Friday. Its called Quicktime and youtube. Ha! I'm going to try MOCCA next year in NY and see how that is. I hear its pretty great.

Funny story and great art by Kevin Scalzo.
Its a full color book and the pages look like they were dipped in kool-aid packets.
You can get a copy at Last Gasp. They rock too.

Henry Ian Cusick Lost in Wakiki

Walking around Wakiki when we noticed a familiar face at the surf rentals at Queens. It was Henry Ian Cusick from "Lost".
Just when I thought we would not see anyone from the show during our 16 days there. He was really cool to meet. No hang ups that I was buggin' him. Talked about surfing, what would be a good sized board to get, has he seen the Triple Crown contest going on at sunset beach. If I had my board shorts on I would have got a board and went out too. Ughh!!

HONOLULU!
I just arrived home a few days ago from an amazing vacation to the island of Oahu.
Our first day we attended an art opening that Jenn's mom was in at the Pegge Hopper gallery in Chinatown. It was a group show for Day of the Dead. The opening tonight was for the artists and friends (the next night was the first Friday opening). I was surprised at
the great turnout. A lot of people showed up and the sidewalks were filled with the many art goers walking to the various galleries also open. I really liked her piece of a skeleton chair that is in honor of her father.

Primate Five LUAU!

I lost my voice after this performance. I gave it my all to the fans and I know the other guys did too. Great crowd at the Luau. Thanks Dave for the best one yet! Also thanks to the Seattle Police Department for not shutting us down. I guess they heard us six blocks way. I never saw so many police at one party. I thought it was our escort to the tour bus after the show.... Oh well. Last photo was from the PunkLife Fest.

THE CLAW VS. TIKI MONSTER!

The Earth Shakes!

This years Luau was over the top. As the Claw I was asked to perform with the amazing Primate Five. Just back from an exhausting tour of the Phillipines they had one more to show to perform and asked me for my help. I am indebted to those four gentlemen after saving my life during a brawl in Lautoka Fiji that I intentionally started. At least I think it was them. Of course I said yes. I have an extensive fan base in West Seattle so I thought I could help.
After singing two of my most popular songs I noticed over the thunderous applause that something was going on in the back of the crowd. Almost immediately I recognized what it was. At over nine feet tall and 300 pounds one of my greatest enemies found me. Let me just state this now. HE DID NOT RECIEVE AN INVITATION.
I think that night the earth did shake.

LUAU Seattle

Luau- Pineapple Chicken
Originally uploaded by Tipsydesigns.
This was the best Luau yet. Each year Dave's backyard gets better looking as we add more Tikis, lights, and decorations for the bar.
The food was from a local Hawaiian family restuarant and was gobbled up in record time. Pineapple chicken, chicken katsu, and bbq pork. Lots of Hawaiian sweet rolls, and hot mustard to create tasty sandwiches. Thanks Bats! Didnt get too wasted this time thanks to the great food in mah belly. My watermelon drink (The most popular drink at the party) was not ready to go so I drank Tiki mugs full of delicious MaiTai's from drink master Carl Drunko. Great crowd. Met new people who share in the love of Tiki culture in Seattle. DJ's G and Double-O S.O.U.L were the perfect mix of lounge and funk. Next year will be even better!

APE 2006

Happy at APE
Originally uploaded by Tipsydesigns.
I had a great time at APE. My bro Kevin Scalzo and I had a booth (our first together) full of screenprints, Gocco prints, even Giclee prints. Lots of comics like Sugar Booger, Mushroom Kid and our newest Aw, Nuts!
Kevin also had new t-shirts and a sketchbook that looked really tough.
We both met a lot of really cool new people and saw some old friends like Eric Reynolds and Greg
Zura of Fantagraphics. Got to talk to Dan Clowes again which is always great.
Lots of "Pixar" type comic artists this year. Real cute looks to their stuff.
We got food every day at the Ferry Building Marketplace at the Embarcadero. My hotel was just across the street so it was very conveniant.
I will have some more APE photos up very soon.

A.P.E. Con / Alternative Press Expo!!!

April 8th and 9th in San Francisco. I will have a booth there with my bro Kevin Scalzo. Im really excited because I have been to many comic cons (Man, I could tell you some funny geeky stories!) but never had my own booth.
We are going to premiere our newest comic book Aw, Nuts. If you are going to be there, please stop by our table and say hello and check out all the cool stuff we brought. We will also be doing free sketches and selling art.
I have two prints that were completed this month and will be sold at the table. Here is what one of them looks like. Its called Tin & Tonic. Silver ink printed on a really nice silver metallic card stock. The cool addition of die cut bubbles add to the swingin' cocktail look. My biz is called TipsyDesign and this year will be the begining of a new line of prints, books, t-shirts,
toys, and some surprises. Hope to see you all there!

JAIME HERNANDEZ & THE FANTASTIC FOUR

Crud! Its been way too long so Im just going to post some stuff from my freekydeeky collection.
I love Jack Kirby's run on the Fantastic Four (he was the artist for the first 100 issues!). Pure escapism for my money. So when I met Jaime Hernandez (Wha? where is this story leading too?)at one of those many cons I have been to, I thought I would ask for a sketch (as well as buy some art) based on those great times. I have almost every issue of the original Love & Rockets, love Jaime's stylized women, and one of my favorite FF characters was Medusa so..........
Thanks Jaime!
Marvel, get a clue, and beg him to do one issue of the FF.
